Holly Cook

Vice President of Human Resources

Holly joined LabConnect in 2015 bringing more than 20 years of human resource experience to the company. She has diverse industry experience in hospitality, real estate, manufacturing and health care. Holly began her tenure at LabConnect as the first full-time Human Resource employee and was recently promoted to a directorship. The human resources team along the employee base for LabConnect has grown by over 150% since she joined. The oversight of this group includes human resources, training, and recruitment. Holly holds a B.S. in Management with a Human Resource concentration from the University of Central Florida and earned an MBA at Florida Gulf Coast University. Along with being a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), she is a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) through the Society for Human Resource Management. Holly lives in Jonesborough, TN.

Stacy Kirn-Barker

Director of Project Management

Stacy has more than 20 years of experience in the field of clinical laboratory science and more than 14 years of experience in the central laboratory industry. Stacy is responsible for the oversight of central lab project management services offered by LabConnect. In her time at LabConnect, she has personally managed more than 75 studies ranging from small Phase I studies to large, global Phase III and IV studies across numerous therapeutic areas. Stacy holds a BS in clinical laboratory science from the University of Kentucky and is certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology as a medical technologist. Stacy currently resides in Lexington, Kentucky, with her husband and a very spoiled dog named Bob.

Sandy Emhart

Senior Director of Biospecimen Operations

Sandy joined LabConnect as Senior Director of Biospecimen Operations in 2019 with almost 20 years of experience in the clinical laboratory and clinical trial support arena. She oversees the Investigator Support Services, Sample Processing, and Biorepository Departments. These are the departments that handle all specimens received and/or stored in Johnson City. Most recently Sandy had a 7-year career with Cancer Genetics in Morrisville, NC where she functioned as the CAP Biorepository Director and CAP Clinical Laboratory Manager. During her tenure at CGI, Sandy helped the laboratory to gain their initial CAP accreditation as well as maintain accreditation for the biorepository. Sandy also lent her expertise in
molecular biology as part of the Scientific Development team to develop and validate new assays and methods. Prior to that Sandy worked as a medical technologist for the Duke University Health System for 10 years in the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory. Sandy received her BS in Microbiology from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC and maintains her ASCP certification in Molecular Biology. Sandy lives in Johnson City with her son and her daughter – who teaches English in South Korea.

Elizabeth Koury

Vice President of Scientific Operations

Liz leads the Scientific Operations and Technical Affairs teams. Liz brings more than 16 years of experience in conducting and overseeing scientific research in the areas of neuroscience, oncology and immunology. She is responsible for leading a team of scientists, sample management professionals and contract managers strategically supporting clients within the pharmaceutical industry. She also has extensive experience in drug discovery and development of small and large molecules as well as facilitation of technology transfers and assay oversight with external collaborators. During her time at LabConnect, Liz has been responsible for the scientific oversight and clinical phase project management of numerous pharmaceutical products. In addition, she has grown her team and the client base positioning LabConnect to have an increasing presence in the pharmaceutical industry. Liz has a BS in biology/allied health from Elizabethtown College and an MS in pharmaceutical chemistry from Lehigh University. Liz lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Kris Kuryla

Executive Director, Project Management

Kris joined LabConnect as Executive Director, Project Management in February 2019. Kris is responsible for the oversight of central lab project management services offered by LabConnect, aligning project service strategy to client needs, and ensuring excellence in project delivery. Kris brings over 20 years of central laboratory experience with prior leadership roles in Global Project Management, Data Management, and Clinical Trials Information Systems. Her research interests include Neurology, Oncology, and Infectious Diseases. Kris earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology with concentrations in Computer Information Systems, Quality Systems Management, and International Logistics. She served as the Chair for the Western New York Chapter of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals from 2011-2017. Kris and her husband divide their time between residences in Rochester, NY and Johnson City, TN.

Danuta Kuszczak

Senior Director of Project Initiation

Danuta joined LabConnect in 2006. She has more than twelve years of experience in the following therapeutic areas: obstetrics/gynecology, oncology, cardiology, dermatology, gastroenterology, immunology/infectious disease, nephrology/urology, neurology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, psychiatry/psychology and pulmonary/respiratory diseases. Her key areas of expertise include the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of domestic and global cross-functional or single service projects. She holds a PhD in chemistry from Technical University of Gdańsk, Poland, a MS in chemistry from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at East Tennessee State University. Danuta lives in Johnson City, Tennessee, with her husband and son.

Jon Lowe

Director of Vendor Management

Jon joined LabConnect in August 2019 as the Director of Vendor Management and brings 20 years of experience in the clinical laboratory and clinical trials industries. He is responsible for the management and oversight of LabConnect’s extensive network of vendor and partner laboratories. Jon joined LabConnect after spending 12 years establishing, managing and growing a very successful clinical trials program within ARUP Laboratories. While at ARUP, Jon developed a functional process, team, and business unit that proved to be a unique approach to supporting laboratory testing for complex clinical trials. Jon has a wealth of knowledge around the business of clinical laboratory testing and its utility within clinical trials industry. Jon holds a BS in healthcare management from the University of Utah. And he resides in Farmington, Utah, with his wife and four children.

Jeff Mayhew

Chief Development Officer

One of LabConnect’s founding partners in 2002, Jeff has more than 30 years of operations and business development experience within the health care industry. He also brings LabConnect more than 20 years of international business experience. Jeff is responsible for the oversight of LabConnect’s new business and network development activities and the company’s Scientific Operations division. Before starting LabConnect, Jeff was Founder and Director of Nexus Health Management International, where he was involved in the development of inpatient behavioral health services in Southeast Asia. Prior to that, he served as Vice President of Strategic Alliance Development for Charter Behavioral Health Systems, Vice President of Operations/Development at Option Care, Inc. and as a Franchise Operations Manager for Medicine Shoppe International. Jeff earned his BA degree in economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He lives in Seattle, Washington.

Andre Merza

Senior Director of Quality Assurance

Andre brings 20 years of experience in quality assurance and regulatory affairs across all stages of drug, biologic and device lifecycle. At LabConnect, Andre is responsible for the oversight of the quality and regulatory areas. Prior to joining LabConnect, Andre held positions in the industry as an Associate Director of Quality and as a Quality Assurance and Study Director. He has contributed to regional and national professional quality seminars and obtained professional certification from the Society of Quality Assurance. Andre earned a BS in business administration from Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania. He lives in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Susanne Oltz

Chief Financial Officer

Susanne has over 17 years of clinical trial experience including Vice President positions at two top 10 CROs- PRA and WCT and most recently CFO at Atlantic Research Group. She brings a vast amount of experience which includes oversight of the contract process, development of resource management tools, study costing, project financial metrics as well as leading large finance teams. Prior to joining LabConnect, Susanne held executive positions at large and medium sized CROs, large investigator site and pharma including both public accounting and other senior corporate finance roles. In her prior experience she worked within the finance, legal, and proposal areas. Susanne earned her Master of Business Administration from St. John’s University and her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Pace University. Susanne lives in Johnson City, TN, with her husband, Phil.

Tom Sellig

Chief Executive Officer

Tom joined LabConnect as Chief Executive Officer in July 2019. Tom’s strategic priorities include continuing to execute on LabConnect’s growth plans, expanding the Company’s worldwide central laboratory network, building upon the quality reputation for industry-leading sample management services, and identifying new opportunities for supporting pharmaceutical and biotech clients. Previously, he served as Chief Commercial Officer at ConnectiveRx. From 2014 to 2018, Tom was Senior Vice President of Global Sales at Patheon, which was acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2017. From 2007 to 2014, Tom held a variety of roles of increasing responsibility within Covance, which is now part of LabCorp. Before Covance, Tom had executive leadership roles at Ventana Clinical (now part of Syneos) and Medical Broadcasting Company. Tom earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from New York University. Tom lives in Wayne, PA with his wife and four children.

Barry Simms

Chief Operating Officer

As chief operating officer, Barry Simms oversees LabConnect’s operations and is an accomplished, hands-on leader who has successfully led teams, departments and regions for a global CRO. Barry joined LabConnect after 16 years of increasing responsibility from clinical research associate (CRA) and manager of corporate training to country manager of North America and senior executive director of clinical operations. Barry was instrumental in growing CTMS, a CRO with 100 employees, through its acquisition by Chiltern, a CRO with 4,300 employees in 46 countries. During eight years at Chiltern, Barry held multiple senior roles including line management oversight for the North American clinical operations department. In this role, he supervised US CMO line managers, clinical research associates, clinical team leads and clinical trial administrators. His professional passions include leadership development, process improvement and client management. Barry has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from University of Virginia College at Wise and an MBA from King University.

Eudoro van der Biest

Vice President of Information Services

Eudoro has more than 25 years of IT experience, including lengthy experience in manufacturing, healthcare systems and laboratory information management systems. At LabConnect, he has managed the IT department’s rapid growth from a U.S.-based operation to a global network of more than 30 laboratories supporting users around the world. Prior to joining LabConnect, Eudoro was the Database Administrator for Wellmont Health System, a 1,000-bed health system with more than 20 Oracle databases and 250 SQL Server databases. He has led numerous projects and has expertise in the design and implementation of software systems. He has also participated in the CDASH project (a CDISC standard) and CareSpark, an innovative effort to improve health through the collaborative use of health information. His research in applied mathematics concerned reducing errors in finite precision environments when solving large linear equation systems using Gaussian elimination and developing a new pivoting strategy to decrease the accumulation of rounding error and computing time to increase result accuracy. Eudoro has a BS and MS in computer science from East Tennessee State University and lives in Kingsport, Tennessee, with his wife and two children.

Stephanie Weber

Senior Director of Advanced Therapy Services

Stephanie joined LabConnect in 2009 bringing more than 10 years of combined central and specialty laboratory project management experience across domestic and global clinical trials. She is responsible for the management and oversight of LabConnect’s EDS group specializing in the sample management of early phase studies. At LabConnect, Stephanie combines her experience working with biomarkers and complex sample collection and logistical requirements to help develop LabConnect’s comprehensive sample tracking platform, SampleGISTICS™. She has a degree in chemistry from The College of Staten Island as well as a law degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Stephanie currently resides in Camas, Washington, with her husband and two children.
